Description

Clomiphene (Clomid) is in a class of medications called ovulatory stimulants. Clomiphene is a fertility agent used to induce ovulation (egg production) in women who are unable to produce eggs but wish to become pregnant. Clomid works similarly to estrogen, a female hormone that causes eggs to develop and release from the ovaries. Clomiphene is also sometimes used to treat male infertility, menstrual abnormalities, fibrocystic breasts and persistent breast milk production. To know more about the uses of Clomid, you will need to speak to your doctor or pharmacist.

How to use

Clomiphene is available in form of a tablet. It is taken by mouth once daily for 5 days. The dose begins on beginning on or about day 5 of the cycle. Take Clomiphene, around the same time everyday to help you remember. Take Clomiphene exactly as directed. Do not take change dose or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. It is important that you follow the directions on your prescription label. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.

Storage

Clomid should be stored at room temperature. It should be kept away from excess heat and moisture. Hence, should not be stored in the bathroom. Clomid should be kept in the container it came in only. The container should be kept tightly closed and out of reach of children. If the medicine become outdated or you are no longer taking it then you need to discard it safely. Consult your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.
Precaution

1. Make sure that you are not allergic to Clomid or any other drug. Inform your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, nutritional supplements and herbal products you are taking. Also, mention other medical conditions that you are taking liver disease, ovarian cysts (except those from polycystic ovary syndrome), uterine fibroids, abnormal vaginal bleeding, a pituitary tumor or thyroid or adrenal disease. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding then inform your doctor.

2. Clomid increases the chance of multiple pregnancy (twins or more). Talk to your doctor about the risks of multiple pregnancy while taking Clomid. If you become pregnant while taking Clomid, call your doctor immediately. In addition, you should know that Clomid may cause blurred vision. Do not drive a car or operate machinery, especially in poor lighting, until you know how this medication affects you.
